About

I’m a computer person (staff/principal engineer?) in Los Angeles, currently on a break from employment while the industry sorts out just what it thinks it’s doing right now.

I started my career back in 2010 and have since developed a specialty in building and maintaining large distributed systems, usually with some kind of data focus; past employers of note include Twilio and Figma. I’m an experienced conference speaker and organizer, currently serving as program chair for North Bay Python in the beautiful and quirky/charming town of Petaluma, California.

After getting my B.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley and spending the following decade in the Bay Area, I moved to Los Angeles in 2023 to be closer to my partner Phillip.

I’m a lifelong aviation nerd descended from two generations of Boeing engineers (okay, maybe one and a half — Dad only worked there for a few years during grad school to support the family, but his dad was a lifer), so naturally I’m learning to be a pilot. Southern California is blessed with beautiful weather and scenery and a host of fantastic general aviation airports; I currently fly from Santa Monica Airport (KSMO) in the venerable Cessna 172, working toward a sport pilot license.

Outside of computers and airplanes, I (like many other neurodivergent people) have far too many hobbies. I’m an enthusiastic home cook and love trying new flavors and foods both at home and dining out; I play piano and sing (formerly with the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus; at some point I’d like to join another queer chorus); and I taught myself to DJ as a pandemic hobby — you can find some sets and a few remixes/mashups/original songs on my SoundCloud and I sporadically perform live on Twitch.
